Clinical bacteriology is a discipline that studies and identifies clinically significant prokaryotic species. Historically, bacteriology has proven as utterly important for the development of infectоlogy – a great number of diseases had been well-known for centuries but still incurable until their causative agents were revealed. Identifying the causative agent of a disease is sometimes equivalent to finding a way of its prevention or even invention of a cure.
