Blood culture is an essential microbiological method for the detection and recovery of microorganisms from blood and other normally sterile body fluids. Early detection of microorganisms in the bloodstream is essential for the diagnosis and monitoring of serious infections associated with bacteremia and fungemia.
Aerobic Culture Bottle PF is an in vitro diagnostic medical device designed for the qualitative recovery and detection of aerobic and facultatively anaerobic microorganisms from blood and other normally sterile body fluids.
The bottle contains 20 mL of culture medium formulated with selected nutritional components, including Tryptone, Gelatin Peptone, Yeast Extract, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Polyanethol Sulfonate (SPS), Sodium Pyruvate, Hemin, Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD), vitamins, amino acids, carbohydrates and Resin. The culture medium is supplemented with specially selected growth factors that support the growth and detection of fastidious and slow-growing microorganisms.
The formulation contains macroporous and cationic resins, providing high neutralizing activity and supporting microorganism recovery in the presence of antibiotics and other inhibitory factors in clinical specimens.
The bottle is designed for use with relatively small blood volumes, with a recommended specimen volume of 1–5 mL, making it suitable for applications where only a limited blood volume is available.
The culture bottle is intended for use with compatible automated blood culture and microbial detection systems. Microbial growth is monitored using a colorimetric sensor that detects changes associated with the production of carbon dioxide and other acidic metabolic products during microbial growth.
The highly resistant plastic material of the bottle contributes to a high level of biosafety during the handling and processing of clinical specimens.
